The good news is that the development of a regional five-year masterplan – to nurture the engineering skills needed to support manufacturing in South Africa as the automotive industry transitions to future mobility, including electric vehicles (EVs) – has started! …this from the Automotive Industry Development Centre Eastern Cape (AIDC EC).

The Eastern Cape houses several vehicle manufacturers, including Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Isuzu, Ford and FAW, and contributes 38% of South Africa’s total vehicle production and 50% of its exports.

Consultant – Development of a Framework for Affordable Vehicle Finance 

The Jobs and Economic Transformation in Ghana (JET) Programme is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The programme is FCDO Ghana’s flagship investment-led job creation programme that will help Ghana transition away from aid dependence in line with the Government of Ghana (GoG) “Ghana beyond Aid” strategy. It seeks to leverage increased investments into the manufacturing and industrial sectors, and introduce new technology and management capabilities, increasing the capabilities of the workforce generating formal employment and economic diversification.

Stellantis and Africar partner to launch Auto24, a used car marketplace 

Africar, an online car marketplace operating in over 40 African countries, has partnered with Stellantis, the parent company of Maserati, Peugeot, Fiat, and Chrysler among other brands, to launch Auto24, a used car marketplace for Africa. Auto24 will launch in Ivory Coast, and Africar has plans to expand the marketplace across the continent over the upcoming quarters and years.

Car dealers lament scarcity of foreign exchange 

Car dealers have bemoaned the scarcity of foreign exchange (forex) and its heavy toll on Nigeria’s automobile industry. They said the liquidity crisis has stifled importation and hiked the cost of cars, adding that the development requires urgent intervention of government.
